Remodel/Renovation
The challenge of a remodel or renovation design project is quite different than that of designing a new home. Working within an existing space or creating more room by adding on to an existing structure brings with it a new set of restrictions and requirements. We believe that our experience and innovative designs along with our respect for historic architectural elements make Parker Stuckey Residential stand out among other designers on remodel and renovation projects.
When we are asked to take on a project that must work within or around an existing structure, we start just as we would a custom home. We work to examine the needs and desires of our clients before we even look at design options. Then, just as we would extensively analyze the site for a new home, we work to examine the existing conditions that we will need to take into account. We analyze the structure of the existing building, evaluate any significant architectural elements, and thoroughly examine existing details that will help us tie the new in with the old.
From that point, we work to create a variety of design options and work with our clients to weigh the benefits of each approach. If possible, we meet within the existing space to show our clients the changes that will take place which in some cases includes "drawing" out lifesized elements on the floor and walls of the space. In the end, we tweak, modify, and revisit several iterations of our plans to come up with the absolute best design.
Whether we're working to redesign a master suite in a 1920's traditional home or adding an entire second floor to a 1970's contemporary, we work to incorporate the details of the existing residence while bringing the entire project up to today's standards and design aesthetics. That may mean exhaustively searching for a hand carved newel post to anchor the railing of a new staircase or working with a trim carpenter to create molding details that tie the new and old together.
In any case, we believe that a remodeled or renovated space can fit our clients desires and wishes just as if we were creating a new custom home from the ground up. Through creative planning and sometimes out of the box ideas, we can create a new space that lives up to the highest of expecations.
